As a result of the pandemic, many of us have had to rethink the way we do business, as well as how we engage with friends, family and colleagues – and with our network. Since Adel & Link was founded in 2011, we have opened our doors for our annual Trendvernissage – an evening discussing the coming year’s trends and what the future holds. This time it went digital.

In 2020, we had no choice but to move our Trendvernissage into the digital world. The silver lining was that we were able to offer an inspiring platform and spark ideas among our clients, start-ups, creatives and communication professionals not only from the Rhine-Main area but from across the country.

We did this by interviewing inspiring speakers on our trends on YouTube and by creating an entire “Trendweek” on our Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook channels. Below you can find out more about the trends that we discussed during our Trendweek – and if you want to keep your feet warm while sitting on the sofa watching our trend videos (in German), just send us an email and we will send over a pair of our trend socks!

#1 – Cool Coffee:

Our first trend video is about the “Cool Coffee” trend because coffee is much more than a morning energiser. We use coffee grounds as an odour neutraliser or plant fertiliser. But did you know that you can even make cups, furniture and sneakers out of coffee grounds? Sit back with a good cup of coffee and enjoy the first video here.

#2 – Digital Farming:

Agriculture is going digital. With digital tools, farmers will be able to monitor their fields and improve their yields in the future. Kizito Odhiambo, founder of agriBORA, explains how this is possible. In our second video, he tells us more about his mission to help smallholder farmers in East Africa increase their crop yields with real-time information via SMS. Watch the full interview here.

#3 – Progressive Provinces:

High costs, small living space, and anonymity make life in the city increasingly unattractive for many people – and, of course, the pandemic has accelerated this trend. As a result, more and more people are being drawn back to the countryside to create the “progressive province”. In our Trendvernissage interview, Silvia Hennig from “Think & Do Tank” neuland21 tells us more about the reasons for this trend and explores the potential of a new life in the country in the age of “New Work” here.

#4 – Fake Me Deep:

Photo manipulation is easy; a few clicks and everyone looks like Kim Kardashian. The next technological level of manipulation are “deep fakes” – digitally fabricated voices and video recordings. In our interview we asked Sophie Rohrmeier, journalist and member of the Faktenfuchs fact checking editorial team at Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian broadcasting service), what risks and opportunities these fakes entail and to what extent they have arrived in Germany.

With the new format of our Trendvernissage, we have experimented even further with different digital interview and social media formats. And this was just the beginning, so stay tuned for our trends for 2021!
